Policing Authority welcomes publication of the first Garda Síochána Independent Culture Audit

Today’s publication of the report of the Garda Síochána independent Culture Audit is a significant step in culture reform in the Garda Síochána. It is the first time that the direct voices of more than 6,500 individuals from within the Garda service have been collected, collated and presented in a set of findings.

Those voices, and the report provide an essential authentic set of insights into the current Garda culture and provide the basis for an important set of recommendations. To share with the public both these insights and an understanding how PwC conducted this independent survey, the Policing Authority will host a live streamed discussion event on May 9th 2018 at 14:00.

The Policing Authority pressed for this audit to be undertaken, that it be independent and that its results be published. Understanding and then changing the culture and working environment for all employees in the Garda Síochána is vital so that the policing service delivered to the public is constantly improving and enjoys the trust and support of the people. The report assessed a number of cultural indicators within the Garda Síochána, such as transparency, speaking up, accountability and ethical behaviour, which have been repeatedly highlighted by the Authority and have been pertinent to our work.

The Authority welcomes the Culture Audit report, as it will provide a transparent baseline from which to measure progress and provide tangible evidence of the impact of the Garda modernisation and reform over time.
