Policing Authority commends Garda Síochána response to Covid-19

At its monthly meeting yesterday with the Garda Commissioner, the Policing Authority recognised and commended the extensive work being undertaken by the Garda Síochána throughout the country both in relation to the current emergency and to regular Garda responsibilities. In the course of the meeting, which took place by video conference, the Authority had a comprehensive and wide-ranging discussion as part of its regular oversight work. The primary focus was on the complex issues raised by the COVID-19 crisis and on the very particular challenges it presents for policing. The Commissioner briefed the Authority on the current and planned policing responses to the present circumstances and outlined the steps being taken to support community safety and to ensure the wellbeing of all who work in the Garda Síochána.

Chairperson Bob Collins expressed the warm support and appreciation of the Authority to the Commissioner and all his colleagues for their work and for his understanding of the sensitive nature of the challenging task ahead.
