This review has been undertaken during 2024, in response to a request by the Minister for Justice following the events of 23 November, 2023. It is not a review of the policing of events on 23 November, but rather a review of the state of public order policing in the Garda Síochána generally.
The Minister of Justice today published the Policing Authority Review of Public Order Policing. The Authority’s review was provided to Minister McEntee in August 2024. The review was conducted following a Ministerial request in November 2023. It is not a review of the specific events which occurred in Dublin City on 23 November 2023, rather a holistic review of public order policing across the country. In preparing the review the Authority had significant engagement with public order Gardaí, Garda Management, and a wide range of stakeholders.
