Policing Priorities 2017 was open for consultation with statutory consultees and other key stakeholders.

The Policing Authority has statutory responsibility for determining Policing Priorities for the Garda Síochána each year. The Policing Priorities are crucial because they influence the annual Policing Plan which sets out the actions, commitments and targets to be achieved by the Garda Síochána in that year.

The Authority held a consultation event on Thursday 8 September 2016. The purpose of the consultation was to discuss and gather feedback in order to inform the Authority’s thinking in relation to the 2017 Policing Priorities. 90 people participated in the event including members of the public, Joint Policing Committee representatives, civil society groups, state agencies, representative associations and Garda members including Garda management. The Authority considered feedback from this event in the determination of the Policing Priorities for 2017.
