Authority Meeting

Press Release

Policing Authority to hold first Meeting in Public with the Garda Commissioner.

The Policing Authority will host its first meeting in public with the Garda Commissioner on the 25th of April 2016 at 3pm in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

The establishment of an independent Policing Authority represents an important reform of the oversight of policing in Ireland. One of the key functions of the Policing Authority in its oversight is to hold meetings with the Garda Commissioner, at least four of which must be held in public each year. The meetings are open to the public to observe and the media are also permitted to record and broadcast these meetings.

The central theme chosen by the Authority for this first meeting is community safety and will include a discussion of the objectives and initiatives set out in Priority 3 “Community Safety” of the Garda Síochána Policing Plan 2016.

All attendees must register in advance. Details of how to register and the arrangements for the meeting are available on the Authority’s website at www.policingauthority.ie. There will be a live webcast of the meeting and a link to this webcast will be available on the Authority’s website. A recording will also be available for future viewing.

Note

In the context that media are invited to attend, record and broadcast the meeting, please contact Ms. Karen Shelly of the Policing Authority by phone at 01 8589038 or by email at keshelly@policingauthority.ie to advise of attendance.
