A Request for Quotations for research exploring evidence-based interventions promoting the resilience, mental health, and well-being of An Garda Síochána personnel issues today, with a closing date for submission of quotations of 23 February 2024.
The collaboration between the Policing Authority and An Garda Síochána in designing, awarding, and managing this research project is the first joint effort of this kind between the two organisations. It is hoped that this collaboration, in addition to enhancing well-being in An Garda Síochána, will also contribute to the development of evidence-based policy decisions for the Irish police service and will form the basis for future research collaborations to drive improvements in policing services to the public.
Deputy Commissioner, Shawna Coxon, An Garda Síochána, stated:
“For this important collaborative project with the Policing Authority, we decided to focus on Garda well-being. We recognise the difficult and challenging role our colleagues perform and acknowledge the great work our people do. This initiative seeks evidence-based well-being interventions that can contribute to enhancing organisational supports that underpin positive mental health. It underscores our commitment to addressing the unique challenges our personnel face in their service to the Irish public”.
Helen Hall, Chief Executive of the Policing Authority, added:
“The Policing Authority is delighted to partner with An Garda Síochána in funding this vital research initiative. Our engagement with Garda personnel nationwide has given us the opportunity to listen to their concerns and begin to understand the significant challenges they face in doing their work on a daily basis. We hope that this research can contribute to the effectiveness of the supports available to An Garda Síochána personnel and bringing about real and meaningful change”.
The research aims to draw insights from policing and relevant first responder interventions in other jurisdictions, leveraging findings from the An Garda Síochána Health Needs Assessment and the first and second An Garda Síochána Cultural Audits.
